About Jamie Ashton
Jamie Dimitra Ashton is an interdisciplinary research scholar and practicing educator. Currently completing her Master’s degree in Educational Technologies at the University of British Columbia in Canada, she is located in Cape Town and teaches at the Academy of Digital Arts as well as travelling to present her research at international conferences. Jamie is endlessly curious and likes to push the boundaries of what we think education can be in our technologically enhanced, digitally connected, global world. Seated at the intersection of philosophy, education, design, media theory, sociology, and technology, Jamie seeks to utilize the potential that lies in spaces that intersect people, learning, media and the environment. This usually entails providing instructional design, public speaking, and training on how educational and media theory can act as a vehicle for communicating of critical thinking, digital literacy, and industry-required 21st century competencies and skills.
Working passionately to make learning an experience attainable to all, she dabbles and digs around in the multi-layered workings of technology and media in the 21st century by analyzing media and technological histories, the role of media in different societies, and the socio-psychological aspects of technological and media implementation. These focuses provide key concepts for the development of resources and frameworks to effectively integrate media and technology use in educational institutions, public spaces, and corporate environments.
