About Kirsten Wilkins
Kirsten Wilkins is an Urban Designer Experience Architect and curiosity fuelled social justice activist.
Kirsten is the founder of the design consultancy Contested Spaces, where her urban design work encompasses conceptualizing innovative urban management strategies and drawing in stakeholders to engage positively and authentically in urban public placemaking. Using technology and innovative spatial design are an essential mix in her work and featured in her taking the stage as a speaker at TEDxCapeTown in 2014.
Kirsten writes extensively in print and online with the intention of informing, provoking and encouraging engagement with issues of designing shared space and differing narratives.
Kirsten believes that a critical way forward in developing cities and narratives in a rapidly urbanizing Global South context is to understand and mobilize citizen action through positive collaborative interventions in public placemaking.
She also thinks bicycles will save the planet.
